Aside from the near-perfect weather 85% of the year, one of the reasons I love (really, truly, eternally love) living in L.A. is the relatively close proximity to things such as this. The Getty hosts Fridays Off the 405 once a month and tonight Dan Deacon is playing. For free.
If you aren't at all familiar with Dan Deacon's music, I highly suggest you check him out. Do not pass YouTube, do not collect sound samples. Seriously, just buy his most recent album, Spiderman of the Rings, and do it NOW. It's glitchy and weird and jubilant and hyperactive and fun, and the best part, really, is the live show that accompanies such aural explosions.
I've had the pleasure of sweating and jumping along with the inevitable mash of fans at two of Dan Deacon's shows, and I'm crossing my fingers against 405 after-work traffic that tonight will be the third.
Here are a couple of shots from his last show at El Rey in January. The 'You' and the 'Me' in the first picture are Mike Posey and me (Oh, me of the stupid, STUPID concert-face), and you can see the top of my head in the bottom right of the second pic. Fun times to be had, y'all. If you're reading this and you're in the L.A. area, I'd suggest scooting up to the Getty tonight after work to check it out.
